David Guynes was the Site Manager for the Museum and Archeological Research and Support Facility (MARS), which is now a part of the Museum Resource Center. He started his career with the National Park Service in April 1984 as a GS-4 temporary Museum Aid working at MARS. Upon his death, he was a permanent GS-12 Museum Curator managing the facility. David's real love was history. He held two Masters Degrees, one in American History and the other in Museum Studies. These proved to be a perfect combination for the job David performed.
David will be missed by his staff and the people whom he influenced, both locally and internationally. He has left his mark on the museum field and MARS will be forever dedicated to him and his passion for preserving the past. David will be remembered for many things, such as the research he performed on relevant museum issues like Integrated Pest Management, environmental monitoring, and the history of individual objects. He enjoyed having visitors to the facility, especially those from other countries: Egypt, Russia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico.
The pictures that follow show David in many lights: his love for his family and passing history on to them, his craftsmanship in designing and constructing museum storage spaces and systems, his appearance with Ted Koppel on Nightline, and working with his staff in preserving the many different collections at MARS.
David is a colleague who will be sorely missed.
