Fall Hours at Mount Rushmore

            Superintendent Gerard Baker has announced the fall schedule for Mount Rushmore National Memorial will take effect September 4, 2007.

                Beginning September 4, 2007, the Memorial’s Lincoln Borglum Museum and Information Center will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily with the evening lighting ceremony presented at 8:00 p.m. The historic Sculptor’s Studio will be closed.  The Ranger Walks be held throughout the day.                 The hours for Xanterra Dining Room and Gift Shop will be as follows:

Gift Shop – 8 am to 9:30 pm; Carver’s Café – 8 am to 8 pm; Ice Cream and Fudge – 11 am to 9:30 pm.

The figure of Thomas Jefferson was originally started on Washington's right side.  After 18 months of carving the figure of Jefferson had to be blasted off the mountain and restarted on Washington's left side.
