Living History Guidelines

Living history groups who wish to volunteer at Monocacy National Battlefield are required to comply with the National Capital Region's Historic Weapons Guidelines. These guidelines can be downloaded here.

In addition, living history units must submit the following:

  • A photograph of your entire group and two of your unit engaged in a living history program.
  • A list of the sites and programs where you have participated in living history over the past three years and contact information where we may check your references.
  • Your uniform guidelines.
  • A program proposal describing how your group might wish to provide a program at Monocacy National Battlefield that would enhance visitor’s understanding and appreciation of this site as a nationally significant landmark. (Please understand that the park interpretive staff is responsible for developing special events based upon interpretive themes and must incorporate living history into some of these events. Your program proposal, along with those of other units, often helps us match units to programs and assists us in our planning. However, it does not necessarily mean that you will be asked to develop that specific program.)
