Arizona Archaeology Awareness and Heritage Month Activities

Montezuma Castle and Tuzigoot National Monuments have scheduled activities throughout March to coincide with Arizona Archaeology Awareness and Heritage Month. Activities are tailored for different age groups and will take place as described below:

 March 7, 2013-The History of Archeology. At 2:00 p.m., Park Archeologist Matt Guebard will give a talk on the history of archeology at Tuzigoot National Monument. Entry is $5 per person 16 or older; under 15 are free.

 March 14, 2013-Archeology Talk. At 10:00 a.m., Archeology Technician Melissa Philibeck will give a talk entitled "Environmental Influences for Sinaguan Settlement" at Montezuma Well. Entry is free.

 March 16, 2013-Historic Tour. At 9:30 a.m., local historian Bill Cowan will lead a walking tour of the history of the Back Ranch at Montezuma Well. The tour begins at the picnic area and will cover approximately two miles over uneven ground. Attendees should wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and wear sunscreen. Entry is free.

 March 30, 2013-Navajo Rug and Native American Jewelry Sale. Hubbell Trading Post has been selling Native American art since 1878. Join them at Montezuma Castle National Monument from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. They will be selling Navajo rugs, Zuni fetishes, Hopi pottery, and Native American jewelry, giving weaving demonstrations throughout the day, and giving talks at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
