Soft Opening and Dedication information
The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to announce the details of the “soft opening” and dedication of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial. The NPS will oversee a “soft opening” of the Memorial beginning on Monday, August 22, and running through Thursday, August 25th. The Washington, D.C. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Foundation, Inc. will oversee all dedication events on Sunday, August 28.

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, culminated in Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered a stone’s throw away from the memorial, before the Reflecting Pool, underneath the benevolent watch of the statue of President Abraham Lincoln.
