Overview
The Mississippi National River and Recreation Area opened its first visitor center, Mississippi River Visitor Center, on August 9th and 10th of 2003. National Park Rangers and Volunteers will help you explore the entire Mississippi River, the national river section in the Twin Cities, and all 391 units of the National Park Service.

Activities: Attend programs given by National Park Rangers, partnering agencies, and volunteers.

Hours: Sunday through Thursday, 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. The Mississippi River Visitor Center will be closed September 14 through September 17.

Coon Rapids Dam  

Did You Know?
Over 600 men worked around the clock using hand tools, horses and coal powered shovels to build the original Coon Rapids Dam in 1913. The dam was rebuilt between 1995 and 1997.
