On the water, enjoy the view of the tree-lined shore as you negotiate a few minor rapids and see lots of wildlife. A stately white building on the east side of the river across from River Park (863 W) takes water from the Mississippi for the St. Paul water system.

The Mississippi River Regional Trail passes through or by a number of parks on the east bank, including Riverview Heights Park (863.5 E), Manomin County Park (862 E) and Islands of Peace Park (861 E). It also follows a railroad corridor for a stretch and passes a Northstar Commuter Rail station. You can see the downtown Minneapolis skyline from here.

Rice Creek flows into the Mississippi River at Manomin County Park. Rice Creek is also a canoe route that starts in Lino Lakes, Minnesota.

The Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts, in Manomin County Park, is a community arts center that operates a gallery and hosts a variety of arts events in a historic Greek Revival house overlooking the river.

The Mississippi River Trail on the west side of the river follows West River Road. River Park has access to the river and walking trails through a restored prairie.
