St. Paul’s Mayor, Chris Coleman, will kick off the opening of the Minnesota section of the Mississippi River Trail (MRT) on June 6, 2009 with a ribbon cutting celebration at Chestnut Plaza. Attendees will also help celebrate the opening of the newly restored City House (once called Head House), which includes a bike pavilion at the river's edge.

Then, “Bike to a Ranger” will follow a 9 mile loop from downtown Saint Paul across the Highway 5 bridge and then back to the starting point through Lilydale Regional Park. Along the route rangers will be stationed to answer questions and talk about the natural and cultural history of the area.
