Mississippi River Forum: South Metro Mississippi TMDL

Norman Senjem, Principal Planner
Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

Mr. Senjem discussed the Lake Pepin TMDL (Total Maximum Daily Load) project, which is nearing completion and is anticipated to have major implications for practices along and within the watersheds of the Upper Mississippi, St. Croix, and Minnesota Rivers that contribute to Lake Pepin's impairments. Mr. Senjem (who is the Lake Pepin TMDL Project Manager) also discussed proposed site-specific standards for Lake Pepin as well as the major sources of the impairments affecting the Mississippi and Lake Pepin, including how the entire Twin Cities metropolitan area impacts the health of the Mississippi River and how the state is translating that reality to its planning and clean-up efforts.
