Mississippi River Forum - River Paddle, June 15, 2012

Group of Mississippi Forum Participants preparing for launch.

Participants in this Mississippi River Forum event paddled gorgeous urban stretch of the Mississippi River--from East River Flats down to just past the Lake Street bridge, remaining in the gorge for the whole paddle. Although we remained in the cities for the entire paddle, we were amazed by how remote, peaceful, and natural the river feels here. We traveled with trained Wilderness Inquiry staff in 24-foot handmade Voyageur canoes, each of which held 6-10 paddlers. They are very stable boats.

This event was sponsored by the generous support of the Mississippi River Fund and the McKnight Foundation. We were pleased to work with park partners Wilderness Inquiry on this paddle
