  • Traffic Alert

    I-90 Exit 131 (Visitor Contact Station) is open in both directions. Exit 127 (Launch Control Facility) is closed to eastbound traffic, but open to westbound traffic. Pick up all tour tickets at exit 131. Allow extra time to travel to Delta-01 for tours.

Minuteman Missile Field Trip - Class Size of 19 or More

Begin by meeting the ranger at Launch Facility (missile silo) Delta-09

1) General introduction to the Cold War and the Minuteman missile systems role in it.

2) A ranger will guide the entire class to view a Minuteman II missile on display and learn about the massive power of nuclear weapons.

3) Ranger will explain the layout of the 44th Missile Wing, the 66th, 67th, and 68th Missile Squadrons, and the role and responsibilities of the Minuteman in deterring war and preserving peace.

This program will last approximately 45 minutes!

Minuteman Missile in flight

The only Minuteman Missile ever launched out of an active silo took place at a silo north of Newell, South Dakota on March 1, 1965. The flight only lasted a total of seven seconds with the rocket landing in a nearby pasture.
