Minuteman Missile Field Trip - Class Size of 19 or more

Begin by meeting the ranger at Launch Facility (missile silo) Delta-09

1) General introduction to the Cold War and the Minuteman Missile systems role in it.

2) A ranger will guide the entire class to view a Minuteman II missile on display and learn about the massive power of nuclear weapons.

3) Ranger will use scale models of Atlas, Titan and Minuteman Missiles to explain the evolution of these rockets and how they worked.

This program will last approximately 45 minutes!

Minuteman Missile in flight

The only Minuteman Missile ever launched out of an active silo took place at a silo north of Newell, South Dakota on March 1, 1965. The flight only lasted a total of seven seconds with the rocket landing in a nearby pasture.
