Use the tips on the following pages to plan a late spring, summer, or early fall visit. The Chapin Mesa Archeological Museum and Spruce Tree House are open nearly all year (only closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day). But some areas including Wetherill Mesa and overnight accommodations are closed during the winter months. Be sure to check the park's seasonal Visitor Guides and the Operating Hours and Seasons page for details on services available during your visit.

A subterranean kiva remained 50 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. So for the Ancestral Puebloans, it stayed cool in the summer, and only a small fire was needed to keep it warm in the winter.
