Sailors Haven/Sunken Forest for Educators

Fire Island National Seashore

Transcript

Hi, my name is Andrea and I'm a Teacher-Ranger-Teacher at Fire Island National Seashore.

The Teacher-Ranger-Teacher program is a professional development opportunity in which educators get to learn about and experience their own national parks.

No matter where you go on Fire Island, no matter what grade level or subject you teach, you will find Fire Island to be an ideal outdoor classroom.

Follow me as I explore the Sunken Forest.

The Sunken Forest is a 300-year-old maritime holly forest, a globally rare ecosystem right here in our backyard.

You can study barrier island change, a diversity of habitat from beach to bay, and the plants and animals adapted to the coastal environment.

So bring your students, bring your classes, bring your school, and make the Sunken Forest your outdoor classroom.
