Little Niagara Falls/Travertine Island - Platt Historic District, Chickasaw National Recreation Area. This area, a popular destination for picnicking and swimming, is the focal point of a cultural landscape that also includes a wooded area, stone outcroppings, creeks, and natural and designed waterfalls. Although the area was being used for recreation by the early 1910s, most of the designed features were not added until the 1930s. This period of development, which extended across the District, followed support from New Deal programs and the increase of visitors arriving by automobile.
