This photo was taken during a visit to historic sites in the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor. The location was a coastal plantation in South Carolina. The woman in the photo is a Gullah storyteller. The larger of the two quilts in the background was made locally to honor the life of Michelle Obama, from her family history at the plantation to graduation from Harvard and beyond. The quilt was displayed in a parade float featuring the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission, as part of President Obama's first inaugural parade.
