This pair of mirrored-image Chinese porcelain vases on teak stands have raised blue base marks and were likely manufactured between 1912 and 1948 during China’s Republic period. The vases appeared in photos of the Truman family’s White House living quarters prior to 1948, but did not reappear after the family returned to live in the White House in 1952. They likely remained packed and in storage for their return to Independence in 1953. It is not known how the Trumans came into possession of the objects. The vases are currently displayed on the mantel in the Music Room of the Truman Home.
