The main parade ground at Fort Baker was dedicated to drills, marches, parades and public ceremonies and was the physical and organizational center of post life. Over the years, the historic parade ground has also been used for other activities, so things such as ball fields and parking lots have encroached on the original historic design. Now, as part of the conference center rehabilitation, the parade ground is being rehabilitated back to its historic configuration. A non-historic building has been removed and the Bay Area Discover Museum parking lot has been relocated to across the street. New sod has been planted, in the original historic configuration. A new sidewalk is being installed and trees will be planted in rows to recreate the historic design.
