Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site Announces New Winter Hours

Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site will begin its winter hours of operation on November 1, 2009. The site will be open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through February 28, 2010. Beginning March 1, 2010, the site will return to summer operating hours, Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Maggie L. Walker National Historic Site will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Guided house tours, educational programs, an orientation film, exhibits, and book store are a few of the activities available at the site. Visit the park’s web site at www.nps.gov/mawa for updates on annual events and special programs. Admission is free. For more information or to make a reservation for groups of 10 or more please call 804 771-2017, ext. 24.

Did You Know?
For Christmas in 1903, the I.O. St. Luke gave Maggie Walker a Victoria (a type of horse-drawn carriage), a matched pair of black horses, and coachman’s livery.
