You can discover some of the most fascinating people in American history at the Manhattan Sites. Visit the homes of Alexander Hamilton and Theodore Roosevelt, the tomb of Ulysses Grant, a Revolutionary War church, a fort from the War of 1812, and the place where George Washington became President.

		Meet Three Presidents George Washington became the first President of the United States at Federal Hall on April 30, 1789. Theodore Roosevelt was the only President born (on October 27, 1858) in New York City. Ulysses S. Grant lived in New York City in his later years, and was buried here on April 27, 1897. You can learn about them and their influence on history from park rangers at each site.

		War and Peace When New York City was invaded by the British and Hessians in 1776 St. Paul's Church served as a field hospital. Casualties from both sides were buried there. After the Revolution, the defense of city was strengthened by Castle Clinton and other forts. In peacetime, Castle Clinton was used as an entertainment center, then an immigration station where 8 million new Americans were received. more...

		Living History Programs Whether you are interested in the American Revolution or the Spanish American War, the Living History Team of Manhattan Sites are there to serve. Made up of Park Rangers and Volunteers, the team can provide living history programs, blackpowder weapons drill, military arts, and historical skills demonstrations. Covering American history from the 17th century to the earily 20th, it is a great way for visitors, schools, and day camps to experience history.
