Manzanar was only one of ten internment camps, or War Relocation Centers. In addition, Japanese Americans were housed in temporary Assembly Centers, Department of Justice camps, and other facilities. The maps here show the wide ranging locations of these sites.
Did You Know?
One hundred fifty Japanese Americans died while interned at Manzanar, but only six are still buried in the cemetery. Most of the 150 people were cremated, and others were removed from the cemetery after the war.
