    The museum at the Henry Hill Visitor Center is closed due to the installation of a fire protection system in the exhibit area. The visitor center and gift shop remain open daily and the park film is shown hourly. More »

Manassas National Battlefield Park and Civil War Trust Partner for Landscape Restoration Project
(Manassas, Va.) – In September, Manassas National Battlefield Park and the Civil War Trust will undertake a limited scope landscape restoration project designed to enhance the visitor experience to the Deep Cut area of the Second Manassas Battlefield through the removal of non-historic trees and vegetation. This project, expected to begin approximately September 1 and be completed no later than October 1, and will affect approximately seven acres of battleground.

National Park Service Releases Final Deer Management Plan for three Washington Area Civil War Battlefields
WASHINGTON- Today, the National Park Service (NPS) released the final version of its plan to manage white-tailed deer populations at Antietam and Monocacy national battlefields (Md.) and Manassas National Battlefield Park (Va.). The plan is now open for public review until September 3, 2014.

Congressman Alfred Ely, representing upstate New York, was captured by pursuing Confederates during the retreat after First Manassas. Ely spent five months in Libby Prison in Richmond, before being released. He returned to Washington and published an account of his experience the following year.
