Jesus, Jobs, and Justice: African American Women and Religion is a remarkable account of how church women created missionary societies, conventions, and national organizations such as the National Association of Colored Women, the National League of Colored Republican Women and the National Council of Negro Women. These courageous women also worked in Christian groups like the YWCA and Church Women United, and in male-dominated organizations such as the NAACP and National Urban League to demand civil rights, equal employment, and educational opportunities. This is the first comprehensive history of African American women and religion. Some of Dr. Collier-Thomas' other publications include Daughters of Thunder: Black Women Preachers and Their Sermons and Sisters in Struggle: African American Women in the Civil Rights-Black Power Movement.
