Puppet Shows

While your group is visiting the site participate in at least one of the programs listed below. Remember, your reservation for a program must be made at least 30 days in advance. Puppet shows are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays in January and Tuesdays only in February.

A Day On, Not A Day Off - A puppet show about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and why it is important to celebrate the King holiday each year.

Duration: 45 minutes

Grade: Pre-K through 2nd Grade

Yesterday Heroes - A puppet show about the contributions of African American men and women whose achievements help shape America's growth and development in the fields of science, industry, education, and the arts.

Duration: 1 hour

Grade: 5th through 6th Grade

Program Size: 70 students

Auburn Avenue, A Street of Pride - A puppet show about what made Auburn Avenue "the richest Negro street in America".

Duration: 45 minutes

Grade: 3rd through 6th

On April 3, 1963, civil rights forces led by Dr. King launched a drive against discrimination in Birmingham, AL. The city's police force, led by Commissioner Eugene "Bull" Connor, used high-powered water hoses and dogs against demonstrators. The brutality of the repression aroused public opinion.
