Johnson City, Texas – Join the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park in celebrating the holiday season. A variety of events will begin on Saturday, November 30 and last through Sunday, December 15. Enjoy lamp-lit tours of the home in Johnson City where Lyndon Johnson spent most of his boyhood years, experience his grandparents' rustic cabin on a special night, listen to the music of John Arthur Martinez, and recall a historic Barbecue held in Stonewall 50 years ago that the press dubbed the "Sparerib Summit." All events are free and open to the public.

The events begin on Saturday, November 30 at 6:00 pm at the Boyhood Home of President Johnson, which is located on Elm Street between F and G Streets. Experience the home as it would have been in the 1920s: illuminated with lanterns. The night-time tours will recreate the home's environment before Congressman Lyndon Johnson brought electricity to the Hill Country. Visitors can also tour the Boyhood Home during the evenings of December 7 and 14.

On Saturday, December 7 at 6:00 pm the National Park Service invites everyone to witness a "Timeless Christmas" at the Johnson Settlement. President Johnson's grandparents' cabin will be open so visitors can experience the 1860s frontier setting in which they lived. Visitors can also greet a chuckwagon cook, evoking the days when the president's grandfather drove longhorn cattle up the Chisholm Trail. A bus will shuttle visitors to the cabin from the Boyhood Home.

On Saturday, December 14 at 5:00 pm musical guests John Arthur Martinez and the Johnson City Head Start children will serenade visitors outside the Boyhood Home. The Friends of Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park invite the whole family to enjoy refreshments and music during this special holiday event.

Finally, at 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 15, the park invites everyone to attend a special event commemorating the Barbecue held in Stonewall, Texas, in honor of Chancellor Ludwig Erhard of West Germany. Erhard was the first world leader to visit the new president in December 1963. The program begins at the Stonewall Gymnasium and will feature music, speakers, and exhibits. A reception will follow from 3:45 to 5:00 pm at the Stonewall Chamber of Commerce with free refreshments and a raffle. At 6:00 pm, be sure to attend the annual LBJ Christmas Tree Lighting event at the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site near Stonewall.

When shopping for the holiday season, be sure to stop by the Western National Parks Association sales outlets at the visitor centers in Johnson City, the LBJ Ranch Hangar, and the LBJ State Park.

Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park is open seven days a week from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information on these and other park activities visit www.nps.gov/lyjo or call 830-868-7128. The park will be closed on December 25 and January 1.
