SCIP and A Call To Action

SCIP and A Call to Action:

#33 Home Grown:

The Massachusetts Student Career Intake Program is an innovative collaborative pilot program that provides a structured progression of career training for local youth from urban and minority communities with the goal of permanent employment in the NPS. Now in the fourth year of the four year pilot there are thirteen students hosted by seven Massachusetts parks employed in interpretation, administration, natural resources and facility management.

#35 Welcome Aboard:

SCIP interns work with a mentor at their host park site. Interns receive comprehensive immersion experiences engaging with professionals at multiple parks to investigate how permanent and seasonal employees, interns and VIPs working in the over 20 career fields support the National Park Service mission.

#36 Value Diversity:

SCIP interns work with a mentor at their host park site. Host park staff participate in cultural competence training from the training professional group Health Resources in Action as part of the BEST initiative.

#2 Step By Step:

SCIP interns are recruited by host parks through their experiences with youth programs. In 2012 SCIP interns represent a collective pre-SCIP National Parks Service experience of 40 years. This includes volunteering, working as members of Youth Conservation Corps teams, working with partners through high school and college activities and as seasonal employees.

#18 Ticket to Ride:

SCIP interns traveled to 14 national park and partner sites and met with over 75 permanent and seasonal NPS employees, partners, VIPs and interns representing careers in Law Enforcement, Administration, Management, Interpretation, Education, Maintenance, Traditional Arts, Natural Resources and Cultural Resources.
