Lowell Kids Week is a week full of fun, free family activities that take place at many locations around Lowell during February school vacation week. Local organizations host a variety of unique events, including arts and crafts, ice skating, cultural activities, games, safety workshops, music and dance performances, movies, a scavenger hunt, and tons more! Different events take place each day, Monday through Saturday, and all children participating in a program must be accompanied by an adult. Lowell Kids Week 2012 partner organizations include: Lowell National Historical Park, Lowell Recreation Department, American Textile History Museum, Angkor Dance Troupe, Enterprise Bank, Girls Incorporated of Greater Lowell, Lowell Film Collaborative, Lowell Fire Department, Lowell Police Department, Lowell Senior Center, Lowell Spinners, Middlesex Community College Multicultural Programs, New England Quilt Museum, Pollard Memorial Library, Tsongas Industrial History Center, and the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Lowell. All activities are FREE of charge! Some events have limited class size and pre-registration is strongly recommended. Here is a sampling of a few of this year's Kids Week offerings. "FAMILY MUSICAL WORKSHOP" Join musician and performer Jorge Arce and two carnival masqueraders from Puerto Rico for an interactive exploration of Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean culture. "FIRE SAFETY" Practice your fire safety skills with fire fighters from the Lowell Fire Department! Their interactive education trailer -- which includes a simulated kitchen and bedroom -- will be on-site for you to visit. "FOLKTALE PUPPET SHOW" Join park rangers for a trip through Cambodia and Laos through stories and puppets! Everyone will make a shadow puppet to take home. "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"Tour the bank vault, see what ateller's job involves, use an ATM, and see what goes on behind the scenes of a bank! Space is limited therefore pre-reservation is required for this event. "BINGO WITH YOUR GRANDPARENTS!"Bring your parents andgrandparents for fun bingo games,pizza, and stuffed animal prizes! "DECORATE YOUR SWEATSHIRT" Participants must bring a t-shirt orsweatshirt. You will get a variety ofsnowflake patterns, transfer the design, cut out your fabric snowflake, and fuse it onto the shirt. Then embellish your snowflakes with glitter paint! Space is limited therefore pre-reservation is required for this event.
