Isaac Edrehi, one of the early Jews of Boston, inspired Longfellow's mythical character "The Spanish Jew" in Tales of a Wayside Inn. But what was he really like? The son of a well-known scholar, the charismatic Edrehi traveled about in a number of foreign guises, making his living by questionable means. How Longfellow hosted and was inspired by this "living Arab" will be dramatized by actors Ian Pomerantz and Jonathan Remmers--along with Edrehi's other flamboyant exploits. Based on historical accounts recently discovered by our presenter, Joyce Michel of Hopkinton.
This event will be followed by a multi-ethnic reception in the spirit of Edrehi.
