This dramatic reading displays the close personal friendship of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and Charles Sumner. Despite very different dispositions, the poet and the politician became the closest of friends for parts of four decades. Tracing this relationship using their own words - through their letters, journal entries, speeches, and poetry - also traces the ongoing conflicts in the United States over slavery and the personal struggles these two men had in finding their role. This program is co-sponsored by the Boston African American National Historic Site and is presented in honor of the 150th anniversary of Emancipation. Please RSVP by phone at (617)876-4491 or by email to Winterat105@gmail.com (be sure to specify the program you are RSVPing for in your email).
