National MallĀ and Memorial Parks is a unique and bustling park that receives more than twenty-five million annual visitors and issues approximately 4000 permits each year. A permit is required for many activities to ensure that various events will not conflict with each other or with general visitor experiences. A part of the landscape since 1922, the Rainbow Pool was reconstructed on a reduced scale approximately six feet below its previous elevation to become the centerpiece of the memorial plaza. With its historic water features restored, the new Rainbow Pool helps celebrate Allied victory in the war.
