Heirloom Garden

Today many people refer to gardening as a hobby but in the mid- 19th Century the majority of families depended on a kitchen garden to augment their diets with a wide variety of foods such as fruits, vegetables and herbs.

In honor of the Lincoln Bicentennial, Lincoln Home has recreated a 19th century kitchen garden featuring a variety of plants that were available in the mid-19th century most of which Abraham Lincoln would have recognized and also dined upon. During your visit look upon the garden see how many plant varieties you recognize.
