Become part of the National Park Service team who tells the stories of over 420 places throughout the nation! Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Springfield, Illinois is looking to fill one-to-two year full-time internship positions.

There are 2 types of positions available:

  • Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA)
  • AmeriCorps VISTA
 

Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA)

The Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA) program is a one-year, full-time internship program run by Conservation Legacy in partnership with the National Park Service. There are also CVA positions open at other NPS sites around the country. Applicants are welcome to apply to multiple sites. Pay:

  • $500 weekly allowance
  • Additional $65/week housing stipend, if housing is not provided

Benefits:

  • Eligible for AmeriCorps $6,345 Education Award upon successful term completion
  • 2-year status with Public Land Corps hiring authority (PLC). This authority can help an applicant receive easier hiring status into National Park Service positions.
  • Uniform provided

Eligibility:

  • Must be 18-30 years old upon start date of position (up to 35 years old for veterans)
  • Must have High School Dipolma or GED
  • Must hold U.S. citizenship or have proof of legal permanent residency in the United States

Duties:

  • 40 hours/week, 1 year term. May be eligible for 2nd term renewal (not guaranteed)

  • Assist with management of site volunteers—scheduling, data entry, etc.

  • Volunteer recruitment—recruit new volunteers for volunteer program, including volunteers from diverse communities. Help establish new volunteer-internship program at site.

  • Community Outreach—conduct outreach to and establish new relationships with local communities and community organizations. Organize events, programs, and outreach that reaches and provides positive impact on the local community. Assist

  • Research—research diverse and interesting stories to be used for current interpretive programming around Springfield and Illinois history

  • You may be required to drive a car for this position

 

AmeriCorps VISTA

The AmeriCorps VISTA program is a one-year, full-time internship program run by AmeriCorps in partnership with the National Park Service. Pay:

  • $575 biweekly living allowance

  • AmeriCorps $6,345 Education Award upon successful term completion or End-of-Service Cash Stipend
  • Non-Competitive Eligibility (NCE) Hiring Status: Upon completion of your AmeriCorps VISTA term, you will receive one year of non-competitive eligibility for employment in the federal government. This enables you to apply for federal jobs with the advantage of not having to go through the standard public competitive selection process.

Current Opportunities

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER AMBASSADOR (CVA)

We are hiring for our September 2022 season!
The CVA position will start on Monday, September 12th, 2022, and runs for 50 weeks until Friday, August 25th 2023.

We are hiring for our 2022-2023 season!
The anticipated start date for the AmeriCorps VISTA position is August 15, 2022. This is a one-year term.

Although students can apply for the CVA and VISTA positions, if you are a student interested in internships and job opportunities specifically targeted towards students, please see our student jobs page. These opportunities are restricted to currently enrolled students studying at least half-time. Students only need to work part-time when taking classes.
