Students entering grades 4 through 6 can hike, paddle and explore at Lewis and Clark National Historical Park as part of the Nature Adventure Camp 2008.
Educators from the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership and Lewis and Clark National Historical Park join together this summer to provide a week of hiking, paddling and exploring the trails, water and animals at the Astoria park.
The day camp runs Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18. Enrollment is limited to 28.
Each day starting at Fort Clatsop, experienced educators from the Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership and the park’s education program will lead youngsters through outdoor adventures designed to enrich and entertain. Hike the Fort to Sea Trail, paddle the Lewis and Clark River in Voyager canoes and explore tide pools at Haystack Rock. Learn to navigate by compass, read a tide chart, identify plants and track wildlife. The week will be packed with scientific investigations, games and unique adventures. You’ll even get a chance to meet a live Red-tail hawk and other birds of prey.
The cost is $85 and scholarships are available. To register, visit www.lcrep.org or call McKenzie Miller at (503) 226-1565, Ext. 229. You can also find out more by calling (503) 861-4422.
