What are Activation Memos?
Activation Memos are an assignment of responsibility for implemention and legislative history for each section of the law relevant to NPS.

What do you do with an activation memo?
Activation memos are prepared for newly enacted laws that require implementation by the National Park Service. Through these memos, the Director formally assigns responsibility for implementation of a law, or a portion of it. The memos also provide the legislative history for the law, which often helps clarify the intent of Congress.

How do I find an activation memo?
Below are activation memos for all National Park Service initiatives signed into law during the 111 -112th Congresses. There is a memo for each public law that has an individual subtitle or section that the National Park Service has responsibility for implementing. For laws containing multiple sections, the memos are listed by subject in the order in which they appear in the law.

Some attachments contain certain pages pertaining to congressional debate or relevant legislative background. Extraneous information has been omitted; therefore, pages may not be in sequential order. The memos will download as PDF files. The attachments at the end of each memo contain additional links. Some of the larger files may take a few moments to download.

Note: This page will be revised regularly as activation memos have been assigned.
