Firearms Information

As of February 22, 2010, a federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal, state, and local laws, to legally possess firearms on lands owned by the National Park Service.

Lands along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail are managed by many entities. The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail traverses 4,900 miles, 16 states, and numerous native nations. It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable state, local, tribal and federal firearms laws before traveling the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.

Find applicable laws state by state by visiting the website of the State Attorneys General.

Federal law also prohibits firearms in certain facilities, like the Lewis and Clark Trail Headquarters Visitor Center in Omaha, Nebraska, and other federal buildings along the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail. These places are marked with signs at all public entrances.
