The parks listed below have curriculum-based education programs. Some of the programs require a visit to the park, others can be used in any off-site setting.

Programs marked with a "" are based on places listed in the National Register of Historic places, but which are not units of the National Park System. The National Register of Historic Places, a program administered by the National Park Service, is the nation's official list of historic places significant at the local, state, or national levels, most of which are privately owned and maintained.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park
About Bats, Caves and Deserts Learn about Carlsbad while meeting requirements of New Mexico's state-wide education framework. This complete, on-line teacher guide is designed for elementary school teachers, though adaptable for secondary grades.
Chihuahuan Desert Lab One of five National Park Laboratories designed to enhance schience math and technology studeis at the high school level.

Pecos National Historical Park
The Battle of Glorieta Pass: A Shattered Dream (Teaching with Historic Places) Explore the impact of the Civil War on the people who lived through it. Examine the past military experience of people in your community, state, or region and compare it with the events at Glorieta Pass, New Mexico.

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument
Gran Quivira: A Blending of Cultures in a Pueblo Indian Village (Teaching with Historic Places) Students will be able to make sense of past events and issues as they affected people at different time periods, and they will develop historical empathy toward diverse cultures.

White Sands National Monument

White Sands National Monument's education programs offer curriculum-based programs that directly relate park resources to what is being taught in the classroom. A series of Education Fact Sheets is available on the web site, with topics ranging from desert wildlife to descriptions of how and why sand dunes move. On the site are also recommended resding lists for preschool, grades 1-3, grades 4-6, middle and high school.
