How To Request a Wilderness Permit

Lassen Volcanic National Park Wilderness Permit Information

This application does not need to be completed if obtaining a permit in person or by self-registration at the park.

Please read the following regulations and keep them for your reference.

Print and fill out the Wilderness Permit Application Form below: 

  • KEEP all instructions and regulations for yourself
  • FAX the completed permit application to
    Attn: Visitor Center
    (530) 595-4477 
  • Or cut and paste the application section into our email form and send it with a subject line of "Attn: Visitor Center: Wilderness Permit Application. "
  • *Please do not include attachments: due to new security measures, emails containing attachments will be returned to the sender.

WILDERNESS USE REGULATIONS

  1. Ground fires are prohibited; use only campstoves.
  2. Boil, treat or filter water before drinking.
  3. Pets are prohibited (except on roads and roadside picnic areas).
  4. Wilderness permits are required for all stock day use.
  5. Travel restricted to designated open trails (no cross-country travel).
    Water stock with a bucket; no grazing is permitted.
  6. Camp a minimum of 100 feet from any trail or high water mark of lakes and streams.
  7. Group size is limited to ten persons per site. Groups must camp at least 300 feet from each other to lessen resource damage.
  8. Locate latrines at least 100 feet from any water and cover with 6 inches of soil.
  9. Keep wash water, soaps, and detergents (even biodegradable), fish entrails and other waste out of all lakes and streams.
  10. Pack out all trash; don’t bury or burn it.
  11. Use of weapons or metal detectors is prohibited.
  12. Motorized equipment and wheeled vehicles are prohibited.
  13. Construct NO improvements such as shelters, drainage ditches around tents, rock walls, bough beds, etc.
  14. Leave all natural and cultural features undisturbed – preserve and protect them.

FOR YOUR SAFETY

  • Ground around thermal areas is dangerously thin - do not ever walk off-trail near hydrothermal areas!
  • Stay on trails at all times for safety and to prevent erosion.
  • Avoid higher and exposed terrain during electrical storms.
  • Do not feed wildlife.
  • Keep a clean camp and store food properly.
  • Be aware and prepared for changing weather conditions.
