Warner Valley Comprehensive Site Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement Record of Decision Signed

Lassen Volcanic National Park Superintendent Darlene M. Koontz, announced that the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Warner Valley Comprehensive Site Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement has been signed by Regional Director Christine S. Lehnertz. The Record of Decision details the process of selection among the alternative management actions proposed for Warner Valley and the Drakesbad Resort within the park.

After careful consideration of all concerns and issues raised during the planning and environmental impact analysis process, and in light of applicable laws, regulations and National Park Service (NPS) policy, a modified Alternative 2 was selected for implementation. Alternative 2 was identified and analyzed in the September 2010 Warner Valley Comprehensive Site Plan Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) as the "agency preferred" alternative. Minor changes to the alternative incorporate recent requirements adopted by the Department of Homeland Defense and recommendations by the California Office of Historic Preservation.  The actions will be implemented in phases over a number of years as staffing and funds allow.

The selected alternative includes the following components:

• Ecological restoration of wetlands throughout Warner Valley, including filling ditches within Drakesbad Meadow
• Creation of a concession service center and housing area located outside of the Drakesbad Guest Ranch Historic District
• Removal of the Dream Lake Dam and restoration of the Dream Lake basin to a functioning riparian/wetland system, and
• Rehabilitation of facilities and structures within the Drakesbad Guest Ranch Historic District
