Volunteers are asked to meet at the Boulder Beach Picnic area at 8 am on Saturday, November 2, 2002. National Parks America Tour is a volunteer-driven initiative designed to provide national parks with the manpower to complete projects and to encourage visitors to care for their national treasures. Lake Mead NRA is one of 15 parks nationwide participating in the tour. Unilever, maker of such products as Lipton Tea, Snuggle fabric softener, and Ragu sauce and Wal-Mart, Inc., will be donating breakfast, lunch, and t-shirts for all volunteers participating in the event and the supplies and materials to be used in the projects. Volunteers will assist with projects which will include assembling recycled wood picnic tables, restoring and painting existing picnic tables, campground and beach cleanup and beautification, and recycling materials at the old horse corral. Participants will receive free entrance into the park and are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and sunscreen, and to bring a hat and work gloves. Bottled water and a light breakfast will be provided. The event will end at noon with a barbecue lunch for all participants. Superintendent William K. Dickinson notes, “This is a great program and Lake Mead NRA is proud to be one of the parks participating in the program. We encourage our visitors to take an active part in caring for our resources. Please join us on November 2nd.” For more information about the event or to register for a project, please call Volunteer Program Manager Nancy Bernard at (702) 293-8714.
