Search for Las Vegas man called off

Rangers at Lake Mead National Recreation Area have discontinued the water search for a 38-year old Las Vegas man, missing since late yesterday afternoon in Las Vegas Wash.

The man, Alejandro Ibarra, 38 of Las Vegas, was swimming with his two boys when the accident occurred. The boys were rescued by park visitors and were not injured.

The search was resumed this morning and called off around 11 a.m. due to zero visibility as a result of heavy silt and mud conditions.

There are no plans to resume the search at this time. Regular boat patrols in the area of Las Vegas Wash will continue until further notice.

An investigation will be conducted into the cause of the accident.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.
