Rangers schedule June programs at Cottonwood Cove Amphitheater

National Park Service rangers from Lake Mead National Recreation Area (NRA) are presenting evening programs each Saturday of June at Cottonwood Cove Marina, near Searchlight, Nev.

The four different programs, with one repeat, will cover such topics as what to do in the area, the history, natives to the area and the stars above.

Reservations are not necessary but, further information is available by calling the Katherine Ranger Station, near Bullhead City, Ariz., at (520) 754 3272 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week.

The Katherine Ranger Station and Alan Bible Visitor Center in Boulder City, Nev., host a variety of educational programs and hikes throughout the year.   • "So, What Can I Do Here?" Saturday, June 2 at 8:30 p.m., Cottonwood Cove Amphitheater. With nearly a thousand miles of shoreline, the name "Lake Mead National Recreation Area" conjures up an image of water recreation. However, water makes up only 13 percent of the recreation area. What do you do here? Join us for this evening presentation highlighting the many things to see and do within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.   • "History At Hand." Saturday, June 9 at 8:30 p.m., Cottonwood Cove Amphitheater. Within the boundaries of Lake Mead National Recreation Area are tantalizing clues to the past. These clues help piece together the story of who we are, how we got here and what the future holds. For more information or directions, call (928) 754-3272 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • "Desert People of the Past." Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m., Cottonwood Cove Amphitheater. The Native Americans that have called the Lake Mohave region home are an industrious group that traveled throughout the area; some developed horticulture to meet their needs. All of these tribes considered this desert their home and each had close spiritual ties that continue today. Together we will look at these tribes, how they lived in the past and what changes they experienced when im-migrants moved into the area.   • "The Wish I Wish Tonight." Saturday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Cottonwood Cove Amphitheater. Learn the wonders of the night sky as you view this month's constellations and discover some of their meanings - both past and present. Bring binoculars and bug spray if you have them.
