Lake Mead NRA expands launch repair contract
The current contract to resurface launch ramps for Overton Beach, Echo Bay and Las Vegas Bay at Lake Mead National Recreation Area has been expanded to include Hemenway Harbor near Boulder Beach.Originally in the contract but removed due to lack of funds, Hemenway Harbor will now have the existing asphalt ramps removed and replaced with v-groove concrete ramps similar to the other Lake Mead NRA launch ramps. Construction is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 29.
The $672K contract for this portion of the project will be completed by EHC, L.L.C. of Powell, Wyo. They have already completed the Overton and Echo Bay ramps and will work on Las Vegas Bay and Hemenway Harbor simultaneously.
The contractor expects the contract to be completed by April 2001.
With these two launch ramps closed, local boaters can continue to launch at Overton Beach, Echo Bay, Callville Bay, Government Wash or Lake Mead Marina.
Although the launch ramp is closed, the Las Vegas Bay Marina is still open for other marina business.
A message board will be placed at a strategic location alerting both Las Vegas Bay and Hemenway Harbor boaters of this closure.
Based in Boulder City, Nev., Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.
