Three Lake Mead launch ramps scheduled for repairs
Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.Launch ramps at three Lake Mead National Recreation Area marinas will close for resurfacing work on a rotational basis beginning Nov. 27 at Overton Beach.
This construction will result in the affected marina’s launch area being closed for four to six weeks at each location. Although holidays and weather may affect the schedule, after Overton Beach is completed in mid-January, Echo Bay is next from mid-January until early-March and the final stop is scheduled to be Las Vegas Bay from early-March to mid-May.
The $617.5-thousand contract, awarded to EHC, L.L.C. of Powell, Wyo., will replace the existing aged asphalt covering at all three launch ramps with new v-groove concrete.
The work was scheduled for the off-season months to minimize any inconvenience to boaters who regularly use these marinas. At the same time, the rotation of the ramp construction permits boaters to use a convenient alternate marina during this period.
Electronic message signs will be placed near the access road to each marina to alert boaters so they can divert to another location.
Although the launch ramps will officially be closed, the contractor, in cooperation with the marina operators, will endeavor to maintain at least one lane for boat launching during construction. No work is scheduled for holidays and weekends when boat launching might also be available. However, construction considerations being paramount, launching would be intermittent and delays would be the norm.
