BACKCOUNTRY ROAD CLOSURES EXTENDED FOR NINE MILE COVE AND NELLIS COVE AREAS

SEARCHLIGHT, Nev. - The National Park Service has extend the temporary closures of approved backcountry roads 23 and 24 through Apr. 13 to complete tamarisk removal from Nine Mile Cove and Nellis Cove on the western shore of Lake Mohave.

The closures are scheduled as follows:

April 9, 2009 Approved Roads 23 and 24

April 10, 2009 Approved Roads 23 and 24

April 11, 2009 Approved Road 24

April 12, 2009 Approved Road 24

April 13, 2009 Approved Road 24

Both roads will be closed to all access both by land and water during a major tamarisk control and removal project. This closure prohibits hiking, camping, fishing and other recreational uses of the area. A map of the area is available at http://www.nps.gov/lame/planyourvisit/images/LakeMohaveSouth_070307.jpg.

These roads are accessable from approved backcountry road 30. Approved backcountry roads are dirt roads that provide additional access to areas within the recreation area from paved roads. These closures do not affect visitor access to Cottonwood Cove.
