National Park Service UPCOMING EVENTS AT LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA DEC 22-29 BOULDER CITY, NEV. - The following events are happening at Lake Mead National Recreation Area Dec. 22-29 Holiday Closures The Visitor Center for Lake Mead National Recreation Area will close at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 24 and 31. The Visitor Center will be closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1 in observance of the holidays. Regular hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, will resume at the Visitor Center Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Hike Hamblin Mountain Dec 22 Take a strenuous cross-country six-mile guided hike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Hamblin Mountain Dec. 22. See geology showing an array of patterns and colors. Enjoy views of Boulder Narrows, Pinto Valley Wilderness and Boulder Peak. Hike White Owl Canyon Dec 22 Take a moderate three-mile guided hike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area's White Owl Canyon Dec. 22. The hike begins near the water's edge and winds into a narrow canyon where birds of prey have been spotted in the past. Explore a twisting wash with many signs of life. Hike Majestic Canyon Dec 26 Take a moderate three-mile guided hike through Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Majestic Canyon Dec. 26. Enjoy vertical cliffs while hiking through colorful winding washes along the base of the River Mountains. Be rewarded by a view of Fortification Hill and Boulder Basin. Hike through the reds, yellows and purples of Rainbow Canyon to the remains of Anniversary Mine where the borax mineral colemanite was mined. Explore the Narrows and hike back through Lovell Canyon.
