Lake Mead NRA News Release July 7, 2006 Superintendent William K. Dickinson has announced the release of an environmental assessment (EA) for the rehabilitation of Northshore Road from mileposts 27 to 48. The project also includes the rehabilitation of the Overton Beach and Echo Bay access roads. The purpose of the project is to make improvements in the existing road design and improve conditions related to pavement deterioration, inadequate road and shoulder widths, and poor drainage. The project will also upgrade the road for consistency, in terms of design speed and sight distance, with other roads in the recreation area. Once completed, the new roads should improve traffic flow and increase visitor safety. The EA analyzes the no-action alternative and the National Park Service’s preferred alternative to improve the road conditions. The public is welcome to provide input on the proposed project and the park’s efforts to avoid adverse effects on the environment.
