National Park Service (NPS) and Partners will Hold an Operating Under the Influence (OUI) Checkpoint at Lake Mead on August 26, 2006

On Saturday, August 26, 2006, NPS Rangers, will conduct an OUI (commonly referred to as a DUI - driving while under the influence) Checkpoint at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The NPS Rangers will be assisted by Nevada Department of Wildlife Wardens, Rangers from both the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service, and STOP DUI Volunteers.

Operations like OUI checkpoints, for both cars and vessels, help ensure the safety of our visitors and employees. Rangers want to remind visitors to be responsible while operating motor vehicles or vessels in the recreation area. The maximum fine for a misdemeanor OUI is $5,000 and/or six months in jail.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.
