Search Continues at Lake Mead for Body of 26-Year-old Las Vegas Man

At about 9:05 p.m. last night the Lake Mead National Recreation Area Dispatch Center received a report that a young man had gone into the water to swim with friends and never returned to shore.

Rangers arrived on scene and were told five men were fishing in a cove at Lake Mead. Three of the young men decided to go for a swim. Two of the men made it back to shore. NPS Rangers searched for the missing 26-year-old from Las Vegas and were not able to locate him last night. The search was called off at about 12:30 a.m. today, Friday, July 21.

The search for the man is resuming today. National Park Service Rangers and divers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are working to locate the victim.

At this time rangers do not suspect foul play and presume the young man drowned. However, until the body is recovered and the Clark County Coroner determines the exact cause of death, we cannot make that determination.

This is all we know at this time.

Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.
