Lake Mead NRA News Release October 29, 2004 Current Launch Conditions at Lake Mead National Recreation Area
The current Lake Mead water elevation is 1,127 vertical feet and the water temperature is 74 degrees. Lake Mead water levels are currently at 40-year lows. Due to continued lowering water levels on Mead boaters need to be careful when launching their vessels and should watch for emerging reefs, sandbars, and other hazards. Launching at several ramps has become more challenging as lake levels continue to drop.
The current launch ramp conditions at Lakes Mead and Mohave are:
Lake Mead
Hemenway Harbor
Boulder Harbor Launch Ramp(next to Lake Mead Marina)
Callville Bay
Echo Bay
Overton Beach
Las Vegas Bay Launch Ramp was closed December 15, 2003 and the courtesy dock was removed.
Government Wash and Pearce Ferry launch ramps remain closed.
South Cove
Temple Bar
Lake Mohave
Lake Mohave launch ramps are open and available for use. Lake Mohave fluctuates within a 15-foot range and is not affected by lowering water levels in Mead.
More information about the recreation area can be found at www.nps.gov/lame and www.funonthelake.com. Lake Mead National Recreation Area is a unit of the National Park Service.
