  • The Willow Beach access road (off Highway 93), washed out from flooding early Saturday, October 14, remains closed at this time. NPS engineers and other park staff will evaluate the condition of the road on Monday. Willow Beach is 13 miles south of Hoover Dam and is accessed on Highway 93. It is on the Arizona side of Lake Mohave and is a very popular recreation spot for Southern Nevadans and Arizonans.

  • The river rafting, canoe, and kayak trips in Black Canyon will resume once the road is safe to travel on.

  • The St. Thomas access road remains closed at this time.  The St. Thomas Road is just north of the Overton Beach Marina and east of Valley of Fire State Park.

We feel fortunate that there were no reported injuries, fatalities or missing persons associated with the storm and subsequent flooding.

Additional updates will be sent via email as soon as new information becomes available.

Scenic picture of Wilderness in Lake Mead National Recreation Area

"The wilderness . . . that has come to us from the eternity of the past we have the boldness to project into the eternity of the future. It seems presumptuous for men and women . . . to dare to undertake a program for perpetuity, but that surely is our challenge." -- Howard Zahniser
