A willow ptarmigan in the middle of its molt from summer to winter feathers.

Lake Clark National Park and Preserve protects four of Alaska's five biotic communities. The tundra community where the ptarmigan lives is one.

Puffins are a marine bird.

Another community is the coastal community where puffins fish.

Trees provide a roost and protection for a rosy finch.

The forest community is the third community and many song birds like the rosy finch live there.

Swans are one of the largest birds in the final community, the rivers, lakes and wetlands community.
